It is a long-standing tradition in the United States that high school football games are played on Friday, college games on Saturday, and professional games on Sunday (with an additional professional game on Monday nights with college games held occasionally on Thursday nights). Following the end of the college football regular season, the NFL begins scheduling some games on Saturdays.
